Career Assessments
A career counselor will help you determine if one of these assessments may be helpful. Computer based assessments can be completed independently. He or she will interpret the assessment(s) and provide additional materials, as appropriate.
Available assessment tools:
• Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): >>> (opens new window)
A personal style profile, the MBTI has 4 scales, noting your preferences on each scale. It then gives you a 4 letter "Type" code. Certain "types" are statistically more likely to enter certain occupations. Understanding your preferences and your natural strengths helps you choose a satisfying major and career. While the MBTI cannot pinpoint a career for you, it can help generate options and confirm general preference patterns.
• Strong Interest Inventory (SII):
An assessment of interests, the SII gives a printout including a Summary, Basic Interest Scales, and Occupational Interest Scales. It cannot tell you what career or major to choose, but it can help generate options and confirm general interest patterns.
To take the Strong Interest Inventory online contact the OCD to schedule an appointment. The SII takes approximately 25-35 minutes. Once you have completed the assessment, your inventory results can be printed out in the OCD, where a counselor will go through interpreting the results.
